Designing a watch that feels like it was made just for you is a special kind of satisfaction. It is the moment your taste, your routine, and your story meet the craft of horology.

At Llamedos Watch Design, we hand-build each timepiece in the UK from curated components, then test and present it in a box, ready for its first wrist-time. This guide explains how our bespoke process works, what a mod watch is, how to brief Stephen, and what to expect with pricing, timelines, and warranty.

Whether you want a clean date-only classic, a practical day-date, or a confident GMT for travel and hybrid work, this is how to turn an idea into your watch.

What a mod watch is, and where Llamedos fits

A mod watch is a timepiece assembled or altered using compatible components to achieve a desired look or function. Modding ranges from simple swaps like bezels and hands to full custom builds with specific cases, dials and movements.

Are mod watches real or fake? A mod is a real mechanical watch built from legitimate parts. It is not a counterfeit, and it should never carry another brand’s protected trademarks or imply it was made by someone else. Llamedos designs are original or respectful homages in style only, with our own branding and specifications. We do not sell replicas or use other brands’ logos.

Is the Seiko mod legal? Modding using compatible, unbranded components is lawful in the UK, provided you do not infringe trademarks or mislead buyers about origin. Our watches are clearly branded as Llamedos and built to your specification, then covered by our own policies and 12 month mechanical warranty.

A quick primer on originality vs homage

  • Original designs: Distinctive dials, colourways, case profiles, and layout choices that express your brief without referencing a specific model.

  • Homage aesthetics: Classic cues like fluted bezels, oyster-style bracelets, or a Pepsi-style colour split that nod to watch history without copying logos or text. We keep it tasteful, transparent, and yours.

Your consultation: how we turn a brief into a build

Every custom project starts with a design consultation. It is friendly, structured, and practical.

  1. Discover: You share your use-case, wrist size, preferred styles, and budget. Inspiration images are welcome. Stephen will ask about legibility, water resistance expectations, and whether you prefer a sport, dress, or travel focus.

  1. Design: We propose a parts list that matches your brief. This includes case size and finish, dial layout, hand style, bezel type, crystal, crown, strap or bracelet, and movement choice. We also cover stock availability vs pre-order.

  1. Confirm: You receive a written summary, an estimated timeline, and a price. Once approved, we begin assembly.

  1. Build and test: Your watch is hand-built, regulated where appropriate, and tested before shipment. Stock builds typically ship within 14 days. Pre-order builds usually complete within 4 weeks.

Choosing components with confidence

The joy of a bespoke Llamedos is in the details. Here is how to think about each element.

  • Cases and sizes: Most builds sit at 40 mm for balanced wear and presence. We also support a refined 31 mm format for smaller wrists and women’s preferences. Stainless steel is standard, with 904L stainless steel available for higher-end builds.

  • Glass: Sapphire is our go-to for durability and clarity.

  • Dials: From matte and sunburst to Arabic numeral layouts and textured finishes. If you want a timeless date window at 3, clean baton markers, or a bolder colourway, we will source accordingly.

  • Hands: Dauphine for dress, Mercedes or sword styles for sport, and colour-pop GMT hands for visibility.

  • Bezels: Smooth, fluted, or rotating. For timing, a rotating 60-minute bezel is practical. For dual time, a 24-hour bezel pairs with a GMT hand.

  • Movements:

  • NH35 automatic for robust date-only builds, reliable and serviceable.

  • Miyota 8252 for day and date, a proven automatic with both complications in a tidy package.

  • NH34 for a true 4-hand GMT, tracking a second time zone with a 24-hour hand. We will advise on power reserve, setting feel, and the best match for your use-case.

  • Straps and bracelets: Oyster-style bracelets, silicone for sport, leather for dress. We can supply interchangeable straps if you want to shift from desk to weekend with minimal fuss.

Timelines, shipping, and what to expect

  • Stock builds: Typically ship within 14 days.

  • Pre-order builds: Usually complete within 4 weeks, depending on component availability.

  • UK shipping: Fixed cost via Royal Mail 48 tracked service as listed on our site.

We will confirm your specific timeline during consultation, and keep you updated through assembly and testing.

Typical budgets and how pricing works

Pricing depends on case material, movement, dial complexity, and bracelet or strap choice. As a guide for UK customers:

  • Stock watches from £99.

  • Specialist GMT builds typically start higher depending on specification. Your consultation will provide a precise quote for an NH34-based GMT, day-date with Miyota 8252, or a premium 904L case configuration.

  • If you are exploring a travel build, our GMT range overview is a helpful starting point for features and layouts.

Budget transparency is part of the service. We outline costs before any work begins and only proceed once you are happy.

Warranty and returns for bespoke pieces

Every Llamedos build includes a 12 month mechanical warranty covering manufacturing faults. For stock items, there is a 14 day money back policy when returned unused and undamaged.

For custom-made watches, the Consumer Contracts Regulations exclude change-of-mind cancellations once production has started. If something is faulty or not built to the agreed specification, we will repair, replace, or refund in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Contact us within 14 days of receiving the watch with your order number and details.

Use-case ideas to guide your brief

  • Classic date: A 40 mm stainless steel case, sapphire glass, clean baton dial, and NH35 automatic. Perfect as a daily wearer that slips under a cuff and keeps a tidy profile.

  • Day-date elegance: 904L stainless steel with a fluted bezel, crisp indices, and the Miyota 8252 for clear weekday and date visibility. Ideal if you schedule around meetings and like at-a-glance context.

  • Practical GMT: NH34 4-hand with a contrasting GMT hand and a 24-hour bezel, balanced lume for legibility. It keeps home time while you travel or work with colleagues abroad.

If you prefer a compact profile or feminine aesthetic, explore our women’s models for inspiration and then brief your own twist.

How to brief Stephen for your dream watch

Bring three things to your consultation:

  • Purpose: Daily wear, office and dinner, adventure, or travel across time zones.

  • Priorities: Legibility, slimness under a cuff, water resistance expectations, or a certain colour theme.

  • Wrist facts: Circumference and how you like a watch to sit, flat or with a bit of presence.

Add any inspiration images or a short list of “must keep” elements, such as a dark blue sunburst dial, a brushed oyster bracelet, or a left-hand crown. Stephen will translate your notes into a coherent parts list and a realistic timeline.
